Welcome back! As we enter into the busy holiday season, my colleagues and I have put together a list of budget saving tips we have picked up over the years. Enjoy your holiday season and shop smart!
Coupon books – CSU is great about having coupon books around campus especially during the first part of each semester. Check for free coupon books in the LSC and administration offices. Also, check your old fashion mail box. Stores, especially clothing and pizza places, send out coupons all the time via mail. Save them! You never know when they might come in handy.
Buy a gift card for yourself at the beginning of month – You can set a budget for the month so you will have enough money for other fun places and activities. For example: a gift card to Starbucks. You can still enjoy your favorite fancy drink without exceeding your budget.
Shop bulk – Sam’s club (go in with roomies) A standard Business Membership is $35.00/year and can end up saving you a lot of money on food.
Happy hours – This applies to more than just alcohol. Happy hours also include discounted food and appetizers. For a listing of local happy hours visit: http://coloradohappyhour.com/category/ft-collins-colorado-happyhour/
Sign-up for fan clubs/email listings – Visit company websites for special offers and discounts.
Follow companies on Facebook – Again special offers!
Use King Soopers or Safeway for gas – They offer up to 10 cents off
Cold Stone – Get free ice cream ice cream by registering to be a member of the My Cold Stone Club. You get regular special offers via email and a buy one get one free coupon the day you sign up. Register at: http://www.coldstonecreamery.com/mycsc/index.html
Sign up for group saving emails – Sites such as Groupon and Living Social offer restaurant and activity discounts for Fort Collins (be careful not to use it for things you don’t actually need)
Never go to the grocery store hungry – You end up thinking everything looks delicious and buying more than you need.
Check out and shop grocery deals (Wed. double deals at Sunflower and Sprouts, sale ad at Albertsons – 10% off) – the Collegian runs the Albertson’s sale bill with coupons every week.
Student-friendly clothing stores – (Such as Limited and JCrew) you get 15% off as a student just show your ID.
Salons may offer same day appointment discounts – Europa in Old Town, Fort Collins offers 25% off.
Half price student tickets to shows at the Denver Center of Performing Arts.
Chipotle – Free student drink with purchase of a meal.
This is just a start on the hundreds of budget saving offers Fort Collins and students are offered. Check it out and never be afraid to flaunt you’re a student! Even in Las Vegas there are student discounts! Share below some of your own budget saving ideas.
